Categorical Design Solutions
Categorical Design Solutions (CDS) is a fresh and dynamic startup business evolving in the Information Technology domain. Our expertise is mainly directed towards eLearning, Knowledge Management, multimedia content creation technology and dissemination of contents over the Internet.
The solutions we provide are direct technology transfers from edge research and development activities we are conducting.
Our team is composed of researchers, programmers and interface designers. Our expertise covers several domains including information technology, artificial intelligence, logic, mathematics and visual arts.
We are a small team of passionate individuals that capitalizes on our talents. Our work experience includes vast accomplishments in large and successful IT projects and scientific research.

The technologies we are developing, while being at the very edge of their kind, are designed to address one global key objective: provide powerful tools to end-users without cluttering their brains with complex concepts and procedures. To optimize the productivity of the users of our solutions, we divide functionalities into different layers. These layers correspond to the different competency levels or roles imposed by the variety of users involved.
Categorical Design Solutions is dedicated to provide to its users tools that enable to unleash in an optimal way their creativity and productivity.
At the very heart of our toolbox, a key component: a lightweight, high-performance server
delivering the Web contents and the Web services building our solutions. With zero configuration steps, anybody can launch it by double-clicking on its icon and instantly become a Web server capable of serving a small-community (LAN) as well as a large scale organizational
Website (WAN). It can be used simultaneously in a wide variety of contexts including situations where there is no Internet access (CD/DVD) or restricted Internet access (Firewall).
To enable effective creation of interactive Learning-Objects (LO), one can profit from an innovative Web-based authoring tool. This collaborative tool lets courseware designers create highly interactive LOs in a WYSIWYG (what you see is what you get) fashion. By aggregating
interactive elements together, one can create and test, on-the-fly, interactive Web pages. It can be used to develop whole course units, quizzes, surveys, assessments and can export them in a SCORM 2004 content package, usable by most LMS (Learning Management System).
This generic powerful tool takes a Knowledge Base definition model (an OWL Ontology)
and generates a Web 3.0 (Semantic Web) application to edit, view and search this knowledge base organically. It uses the international standards of the Semantic Web to represent knowledge. This tool is an essential asset for knowledge governance. The generated Web application Interface can be customized using a wide variety of widgets.
Directly on the Web, one can aggregate a diversity of medias on a timeline to create astounding multimedia shows. Instantly share your creation with other users. It maps and sequences contents projected on different areas in a 3D virtual environment (e.g. walls of a room). This is a Web 3.0 application that lets end-users navigate inside a Knowledge Base to semantically
extract some knowledge-capsules and assemble them in expressive shows that may be distributed
over social networks. These knowledge-capsules are multimedia documents (text, images, videos, music, sound-effects, Web pages) enriched with knowledge about them (metadata, tags from a folksonomy). This application uses exclusively Web standards and can run on mobile devices.
Knowledge management is known to be a field of IT that will profit from a huge growth in the current decade. Materializing an organization’s knowledge is a key factor to assure its expansion and perenity.
At CDS, we are actively developing an innovative knowledge management technology that uses the standard and open formats of the semantic web to encode knowledge. Our solution is very innovative: instead of using proprietary formats or databases like traditional "closed" knowledge bases we use internationally adopted standards like OWL and RuleML to encode knowledge. This has the advantage to free our clients from the usage of specific technologies and therefore minimize the impact of technology evolution on the investment. It also lets our clients profit from the edge research happening in the field and have the opportunity of catching the semantic web wave, which will soon revolutionize the web by providing end-users what they are expecting by specifying a clear semantic of their needs.
Education is an obvious asset a society can offer itself to increase the global quality of its members. eLearning provides anywhere/anytime education and training facilities at a lower cost.
At CDS, we have a long experience record on eLearning technologies and for that, our clients are getting the best return on investment they could expect. We have all the know-how on design, development techniques and deployment technologies to insure smooth projects realizations.
We are currently developing a complete design, development and delivery technology for highly interactive eLearning contents. This technology offers a web based delivery model founded on international standards like XHTML, CSS and Javascript and is multiplatform/multi-browser compliant.
